Øyvind Aamli (aka Oy) is an award-winning Norwegian freelance film director. Particularly interested in the human condition he primarily focuses on creative character-led documentaries, where there’s a strong human story at the centre. Øyvind’s latest documentary about an autistic / non-neuro typical teenager’s struggle after being kicked out of school won Best Short Documentary at Children’s International Film Festival Seattle February 2021 and an Iris Award for Best Non-Fiction Film at UNICEF Innocenti International Film Festival in October 2021. Being Someone Else is currently touring festivals in the US, Europe, Africa and Asia.
With a postgraduate degree in documentary film from Raindance Film and De Montford University Øyvind has developed his voice as a documentary writer and director through films about belonging, autism and the refugee crisis in Europe. Born in Norway Øyvind splits his time between the UK and Norway and is now developing his first feature documentary.
He has a 18-year career in TV, film and music as a songwriter, producer and filmmaker both commercially (BBC, ITV, A+E, BSkyB, Universal, Sony.) as well as the charity/non-profit sector (PramDepot, Collage Arts, Anchor Project, HumanKind).
As well as making films Øyvind is a freelance documentary mentor at Raindance Film Institute and has curated film festivals such as Asylum in Focus and Stella Polaris Short film Festival.
